Good Samaritan UMC serves Gourmet Italian Dinner March 28

Italian meals served Friday

Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Road, is serving a Gourmet Italian Dinner fundraiser Friday, March 28, with lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Cost for a plate is $5, which includes Tuscan-inspired spaghetti and a Caesar salad with homemade croutons and shaved Parmesan. There also will be grilled chicken Caesar salad available as an entree. Side orders available for purchase include bruschetta, roasted garlic breadsticks, homemade apple pie and New York-style cheesecake.

Curbside to go and carry out available; cash or check only. All proceeds go to local community missions.

The church also is planning a yard sale from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. April 5.

Knights at open house Saturday, Sunday

The All Saints Council of the Knights of Columbus, an organization of Catholic men and their families, will hold open house meetings at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, and 9 a.m. and noon Sunday, March 30, at the church, 530 S.C. 274.

Members will answer questions about the group’s goals, interests and activities. The meetings will run about one hour and refreshments will be served.

Daddy Daughter dance Saturday

The Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Ball will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St.

This is a night for girls and their father or uncle or grandfather or other loving father figure. All ages are invited – adult daughters to toddler daughters.

Advance tickets cost $20 for a couple, $25 at the door. Tickets for additional daughters cost $10 each. Financial assistance is available upon request. Ticket includes food and desserts, professional DJ and picture. Proceeds go to Children’s Attention Home in Rock Hill.

Women’s brunch planned Sunday

New Beginning Baptist Church, 706 Old N. Main St., is holding women’s brunch at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 29, with the theme “being a godly lady.”

Free festival April 5 at Bethel Baptist

Bethel Baptist Church, 6031 Charlotte Hwy., is holding a Spring Festival from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. April 5.

There will be free hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, egg hunting, music games and more.

Audition dates for local ‘Idol’ contest set

Auditions for St. Philip Neri Italian Festival - Italian Idol Talent Contest will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 and 6-7:30 p.m. April 30 at the church on Munn Road.

Winners in each division – senior for ages 14 and older, and junior for ages 7 to 13 – will receive cash prizes, trophies and more.

All contestants must audition. The song or routine performed during the audition must be the same for the competition.

The festival will be held May 15-17.

Charles and Barbara Ford of Lake Wylie will host a trip to the Holy Land Nov. 5-15.

The Fords have lived in and visited Israel many times and have insight into the history, religion and modern day culture of this region, the birthplace of Christianity.

‘24 Hours’ Bible study continues in Clover

First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St., will hold “24 Hours” Bible Study from 10 to 11:14 a.m. Tuesdays, through Lent.

Explore Adam Hamilton’s book, “24 Hours That Changed The World.” Focus on one chapter a week and come together for a video, discussion and exploration. Topics include The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, Condemned By the Righteous, The Crucifixion, and Christ the Victor. The book costs $12, available through the church or at cokesbury.com. Church hosts Movies and the Cross

First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St., will hold Movies and the Cross from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Lent.

Session combines Biblical passages with movie clips to explore God’s word and the themes of suffering, sacrifice, love, prayer and persistence. Each session stands on its own so come for one night or all.

Community invited to join challenge

During the season of Lent through Easter Sunday, April 20, Good Samaritan United Methodist Church invites the community to help others through The Upside Down Challenge.

For every mile walked, run or cycled, the church will donate 25 cents to a charity of the participant’s choice locally or globally. For every pound lost and every day someone stops smoking during Lent, the church will donate 25 cents to a chosen charity. The church will challenge up to $5,000.

The church challenge runs on an honor system with participants tracking their miles, weight and days not smoking.

Community Cafe serves lunch Tuesdays

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesdays at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly.

Dine for HOPE

The Waffle House-Lake Wylie and Knights of Columbus of All Saints Council No. 14475 are raising money for Operation HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday), a statewide campaign to help people with intellectual disabilities.

On the first Monday of each month, Waffle House will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to Operation HOPE. For more information, call 803-746-5464.
