The Oakridge Middle School Golden Eagles baseball team beat Clover 6-0 on March 20 in seven innings.
Jake Hylinski gave up one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his 3 1/3 innings. Bo Bodine pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings. Bo struck out six, walked two and gave up one hit.Contributing offensively for OMS: Kolby Crepeau, Tanner Maness, Seth Querze, Kevin Riley, all with one hit, and Bodine with two hits.
The Oakridge softball team beat Clover 16-6 in six innings March 26.
Pitcher Tiffany Dominique gave up one earned run on four hits, while striking out five Blue Eagle batters. Leading the way offensively for the Lady Golden Eagles were: Dominique - 4 for 5, 2 triples, double, and 4 RBIs, Sydney Beatham - 4 for 5, triple, double, 2 steals, and 4 runs, Sarah Kamps - 3 for 4, 3 singles, 3 steals, and 3 RBIs, and Sophia Sprouse - 2 for 3, double, 4 runs.
The Oakridge team lost 13-0 to an undefeated York Middle School team on March 20. Dominique pitched well in the contest and Cecily Williams turned a double play.
• OMS boys’ soccer defeated York 5-0 on March 13. Oakridge scored two goals in the first 7 minutes of the game. Garrett Neuffer scored on a penalty kick 5 minutes in after Nikki Mandakovic’s shot was handed by the opposing side. Two minutes later Aaron Le got on board with a shot assisted by Alex Raine. At the start of the second half, Zach Pierce had a solid cross from the top of the 18, that was finished by Gabriel Patrautanu on the back post. Four minutes later Matthew Gurley scored off of a long throw in by Raine. The final goal of the game came by Jack Winter. Austin Gunnels and Corey Chambers both had a half shutout.
On March 19, Le scored twice in the first 6 minutes. Gurley also scored twice. Raine scored in the second half. Noah Daniels finished off the scoring after multiple close calls. Gunnels and Chambers shared a shut out again. Assists were by Jared Matley, Mandjakovic, Pierce, Gunnels and Alexander Harrell.
OMS defeated Fort Mill 4-0 on March 20. Gunnels held Fort Mill scoreless with a few saves, while Neuffer was solid as the defender. The midfield is deep and strong with Georgie Lamparter getting a few solid strikes from the left side of the field. Scoring were by CJ Ward, Le, Patreatanu and Gurley. Assists were by Pierce, Raine, Conley Whittle and Daniels.
The team played hard against Banks Trail on March 25. The game was tied 1-1 after Mandjakovic scored a chip over a 6-foot goalie. Banks Trail scored seconds before the end of the first half to take a 2-1 lead. Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities with Banks Trail scoring one more, making the final score 3-1.
A battle between Springfield and OMS ended 3-2 March 26. Springfield pulled out the win in a penalty kick shootout. It was the unlucky bounce for OMS that in the end caused the loss. Raine scored both goals from the right side of the field. The defense held strong with Hunter Walden showing out. Le assisted the second goaland Gunnels played strong.
• The OMS Lady Golden Eagles soccer team defeated Sullivan Middle 12-0 on March 19. Highlights include: Janae Massey: 3 goals, J’menii Isaac 2 goals, 2 assists, 1 save, Meredith Bowman: 1 goal, 3 assists, Kayla Cruse: 1 goal, 2 assists, Bailey Story: 1 goal, Olivia Vogt: 1 goal, and Hannah Sills: 1 goal. Goalie Sydney Combs was able to come out of the goal and scored two goals, and forward Isaac was able to make one save.
The Lady Golden Eagles won 7-0 March 20 against Fort Mill Middle School. Scoring began with a goal by Massy, assisted by Emily Tsiukes. Isaac followed with a goal assisted by Massy. Isaac made a pass to Sills. Isaac and Massy teamed up again with Isaac on her way to a hat trick. The second half began with a two passes from Tsiukes to Isaac, rounding out Isaac’s second hat trick of the season. The final goal of the game was a pass from Cruse to Massey, also finishing her second hat trick of the season. Goalkeeper Combs was on fire with nine saves. Highlights include: Isaac: 3 goals, 2 assists, Massey: 3 goals, 1 assist, Sills: 1 goal, Tsiukes: 3 assists, and Combs: 9 saves.
The team defeated Banks Trail Middle School 2-1 on March 25. The Wolves scored early in the first half, but the Golden Eagles responded with a goal by Massey that was passed from Bailey Story. Keeper Combs had 5 saves during the first half. In the second half, both teams remained scoreless until the three minutes. A Golden Eagle took a shot, and in the attempt to recover the ball, the Wolves’ goal keeper lost the ball and Bowman blasted it into the goal. Combs had another four saves to finish up the half.
The team was successful in keeping another team without a goal on March 26 against Springfield in a 4-0 victory. Scorers included Isaac, Tsiukes, Massey and Story. Story was assisted by Sills, Tsiukes was assisted by Bowman, Isaac was assisted by Story, and Massey was assisted by Sills. Goalkeeper Combs had 3 saves.
The Golden Eagles track team started off the season March 20 with personal records. The girls’ team took second at this tri-meet while the boys finished third by only 2 points.
• Highlights for the girls: Dezi Mei placed third in the 1600 meter; Emma Johnson placed first in the 100 meter; Ashley Atkinson placed first in the 400 meter; Cassie Williams placed first in the high jump; Megan Baily placed third in the long jump; Danielle Williams placed third in discus.
• Highlights for the boys: Jordan Parlier placed third in the 1600 meter; Landon Albrick placed fourth in the 400 meter; Peyton Barrow placed second in the 800 meter; Landon Albrick placed first in high jump; Machai Purnell placed third in high jump.
