Charlotte man sentenced to 10 years on federal firearms charge

Gerald Wayne Hairston, 30, of Charlotte, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a 2012 shooting in Pineville, officials said.

A Charlotte man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for discharging a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Gerald Wayne Hairston, 30, got into a fight with a patron at a Pineville restaurant in April 2012.

Hairston then went to his vehicle, got a gun and fired two to four shots at a group of people outside the restaurant, authorities said.

Police said they found a pistol, ammunition and drugs in Hairston’s car. Steve Lyttle
