New support group meeting April 8

Affirmation of York County is a newly formed support group for people in faith communities who seek support and understanding for ourselves and others in working through the issues confronted by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, their families and their friends.

Meetings are 7 to 8:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2955 S.C. 160. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 8.

Temple holds Passover Seder April 15

Temple Kol Ami will hold second night Passover Seder at 6 p.m. April 15 at Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St.

Seder will be led by Rabbi Yosef Levanon, and catered by Sweet Tea’s.

‘Passover Transformed’ service April 17

During Holy Week for “The Passover Transformed,” Maundy Thursday worship service will be held at 5:30 or 7 p.m. April 17 at River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamiltons Ferry Road.

This service is designed to experience the last meal the disciples shared with Jesus the night he was betrayed and arrested, leading to his crucifixion and death the next day.

Audition dates for local ‘Idol’ this month

Auditions for St. Philip Neri Italian Festival – Italian Idol Talent Contest will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 and 6-7:30 p.m. April 30 at the church on Munn Road.

Winners in each division – senior for ages 14 and older, and junior for ages 7 to 13 – will receive cash prizes, trophies and more.

All contestants must audition. The song or routine performed during the audition must be the same for the competition.

The festival will be held May 15-17.

Regent Park Golf Club to support Cuba

The Body Live Church will hold a golf tournament April 26 at Regent Park Golf Club to support Cuba. Players must register by Sunday, April 13.

The event includes one round of golf, lunch and prizes including closest to the pin, longest drive and hole-in-one for $10,000. Cost is $75 per golfer or $300 for team.

My Father’s Choice expands to Rock Hill

The nonprofit faith-based ministry My Father’s Choice has expanded into South Carolina.

My Father’s Choice provides temporary, transitional housing for men and women in need. With the opening of a Rock Hill location, My Father’s Choice now operates 12 drug-free houses in the Charlotte region.

The nonprofit is collecting new and gently used blankets, bedsheets and towels for its new clients. Toiletries for men and women also are needed.

My Father’s Choice began in 2011 and with the help of collaborative community partners, the nonprofit assists in the local fight against homelessness. Clients often apply for housing after their release from prison, addiction treatment or mental health facilities.

My Father’s Choice provides: continuing education, GED and ESL classes, vocational skills trainings, job search and resume writing help, health assessments, heart disease prevention and intervention sessions including exercise and nutrition; substance abuse education; and HIV education.

Charles and Barbara Ford of Lake Wylie will host a trip to the Holy Land Nov. 5-15.

The Fords have lived in and visited Israel many times and have insight into the history, religion and modern day culture of this region, the birthplace of Christianity.

‘24 Hours’ Bible study continues in Clover

First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St., will hold “24 Hours” Bible Study from 10 to 11:14 a.m. Tuesdays, through Lent.

Explore Adam Hamilton’s book, “24 Hours That Changed The World.” Focus on one chapter a week and come together for a video, discussion and exploration. Topics include The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, Condemned By the Righteous, The Crucifixion, and Christ the Victor. The book costs $12, available through the church or at cokesbury.com. Church hosts Movies and the Cross

First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St., will hold Movies and the Cross from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Lent.

Session combines Biblical passages with movie clips to explore God’s word and the themes of suffering, sacrifice, love, prayer and persistence. Each session stands on its own so come for one night or all.

Community invited to join challenge

During the season of Lent through Easter Sunday, April 20, Good Samaritan United Methodist Church invites the community to help others through The Upside Down Challenge.

For every mile walked, run or cycled, the church will donate 25 cents to a charity of the participant’s choice locally or globally. For every pound lost and every day someone stops smoking during Lent, the church will donate 25 cents to a chosen charity. The church will challenge up to $5,000.

The church challenge runs on an honor system with participants tracking their miles, weight and days not smoking.

Clover church to hold VBS

New Life Baptist Church - Clover, 305 N. Main St., will hold vacation Bible school from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 14 for grades pre-k through sixth grade.

Dine for HOPE

The Waffle House-Lake Wylie and Knights of Columbus of All Saints Council No. 14475 are raising money for Operation HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday), a statewide campaign to help people with intellectual disabilities.

On the first Monday of each month, Waffle House will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to Operation HOPE. For more information, call 803-746-5464.
