AARP tax aides official
CLOVER AARP tax aide volunteers were presented with their official AARP volunteer work shirts at Clover Library Public Library at an April 8 ceremony.

Beginning in February and throughout tax season, the AARP tax program is offered for seniors and low-income taxpayers. About 325 federal and 450 state returns are filed each year at the site.
Emergency sirens to be tested Wednesday
YORK The Catawba Nuclear Station will perform a siren test at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday for three minutes.
No public action is required during the test. If sirens were to sound at a time not designated as a test, it means to tune into local media for emergency alert information.
The siren tests are administered quarterly.
Photo competition deadline Friday
YORK COUNTY The York Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a photography contest for York County students from kindergarten to college.
Amateur photographers may enter up to five photos, all entries must be digital and submitted electronically via email and a release form must be submitted for each photo.
Photo categories are: Conservation in Action, Close-up Conservation and Agriculture across America.
Deadline for entries is Friday, April 18. Photos will be judged on technical merit and composition.
At least one first prize of a $25 gift card will be awarded in each of the categories and each of the age groups: kindergarten to fifth grades, six to eighth grades, ninth to 12th grades, college age 18-22.

Film fest entries accepted
ROCK HILL Entering into its third season, the Underexposed Film Festival YC focuses its attention on encouraging, nurturing and supporting the creativity and vision of independent filmmakers, and providing a forum where their work can be viewed.
Independent filmmakers across the world are invited to submit professionally presented short films, with a run time of 45 minutes or less to participate in this juried competition.
Categories include narrative, animation, experimental and documentary. Awards also will be given to best female director and best student film. Entry deadlines and fees vary.
The films selected for screening will be shown at the Underexposed Film Festival YC at the Community Performance Center, 249 E. Main St. Nov. 13-15. For more information, call 803-328-2787, or visit yorkcountyarts.org.
Blood drives scheduled
YORK COUNTY The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas announced the following blood drives this month in York County:
• 4-8 p.m. April 19, Regal Manchester Stadium, 1935 Cinema Drive, Rock Hill. Free movie ticket.
• 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 21, Oakdale Presbyterian Church, 12585 Hwy. 55, Clover.
• 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 22, York Tech, 452 Anderson Road, Rock Hill. Free T-shirt.
Through April 30, CBCC will make a financial contribution for each donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.

Diabetes classes begin May 8
GASTONIA Living Healthy with Diabetes will held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays beginning May 8 at Lucile Tatum Center, 959 Osceola St.
This is a six-week workshop running Thursdays until June 12 to help you manage diabetes by learning how to manage symptoms, eat healthier and read nutrition labels, keep blood sugar in check, fight fatigue and pain.
Classes are sponsored by N.C. Cooperative Extension. Classes are free, but registration is required. Call 704-865-3291 by May 1.
County offers free program
YORK COUNTY Anyone interested in learning more about York County government can apply for a new program debuting next month.
The York County 101 Citizens Academy is a free program that will walk participants through government departments, and give residents a look at public functions and services.
The program will run 9 a.m. to noon the fourth Thursday of each month May to October.

Sheriffs Association offers honorary memberships
YORK COUNTY Sheriff Bruce Bryant invites York County residents to become honorary members of the South Carolina Sheriffs Association.
Individuals choosing to join the voluntary program can do so for $25, while businesses can show their support for a $50 contribution. The funding provides technical resources, training and legislative support on key criminal justice issues. Contributions are tax deductible.

CAAC seeks volunteers
CLOVER Clover Area Assistance Center, 1130 S.C. 55 E., is the largest food pantry in Western York County and provides aid through food, financial assistance, education, medical and dental care.
CAAC needs volunteers including those with skills in curriculum development/instruction; programs and services; information technology; and financial assistance and personal budgeting. Hourly positions for pantry and computer intake also are available.
