Gastonia police are looking for the drivers of two vehicles that struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Friday evening.

According to authorities, John Wayne King, 53, of Gastonia was crossing East Long Avenue around 7:50 p.m. when a large white sports utility vehicle hit him.

A witness told police the eastbound vehicle didn’t stop.

Meanwhile, police said a small sedan, possibly a Toyota, which was behind the sports utility vehicle, also struck King and kept going.

Authorities said King was transported to Caramont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to Carolinas Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the hit and run should call 704-842-5168 or 704-866-6702.
