Clerk’s pick wins Lake Wyle man $200,000

April 24, 2014

— A Lake Wylie man won $200,000 off a ticket the store clerk suggested. Huy Pham recommended the new Stacks of Cash scratch-off at the H & H Mart on Willowbrook Avenue in Rock Hill. Pham says it’s not uncommon for customers to ask which lottery tickets are popular and which ones he’s seen the most wins on. The $200,000 win was the store’s biggest, second to a $100,000 Palmetto Cash 5 ticket sold a few years ago. Seeing one of his regulars win right in front of him was a moment Pham won’t forget. “I thought he was having a heart attack,” Pham said. “He was breathing heavy and his chest was expanding up and down. I asked if he was OK.” The winner, who declined to release his name, was behaving normally a few hours later when he arrived at the Lottery office to collect his winnings. “I can no longer say I play and don’t win,” the smiling winner said. The Lake Wylie man claimed the first top prize of $200,000 in the $10 Stacks of Cash game. Four top prizes remain. Odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 600,000. For selling the claimed ticket, H & H Mart in Rock Hill received a commission of $2,000.
