Life on the river

From staff reportsApril 28, 2014

The Gaston County Piedmont Area Wildlife Stewards (PAWS), along with Duke Energy and Lake Wylie Marina Commission, are working to improve both fish and osprey habitat within the Catawba River system, which includes Lake Wylie.

The project includes making habitat improvements in the North and South Carolina sections of the river system.

“We ask that you remain a safe distance from the structures. This is for the protection of the birds plus you can get a better view from a distance rather than straight up,” according to the website, gastonpaws.com.

Residents are already noticing.

“Life is good. And there is going to be new life on our beautiful Lake Wylie. I am so thankful that this pair of ospreys have choose our property to build their nest,” said Jim Wells of Lake Wylie.
