Today’s traffic: Problems on I-77, I-85

The morning commute is winding down, and earlier problems have been cleared on Interstate 77 and Interstate 85, but traffic remains a bit sluggish on both routes at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday.

A wreck and a disabled vehicle caused the troubles on northbound I-77 in south Charlotte this morning. On I-85, it was a wreck on the northbound side at Harris Boulevard.

Motorists can expect slow traffic until about 10 a.m. on both routes.

Here is the 9:20 a.m. update:


I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

I-85 northbound, north Charlotte ... Congestion from an earlier collision; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Sugar Creek Road to Harris Boulevard.


Sharon Amity Road at Central Avenue ... Collision; minor delays.


I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.

Providence Road inbound ... Collision at Springs Farm Lane; moderate delays.

Rea Road at Providence Road ... Collision; moderate delays.


I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion from earlier problems; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Westinghouse Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
