York County will test out a new emergency alert system on Monday, according to officials.

The new CodeRED Emergency Notification System will notify residents of evacuations, chemical spills, missing persons and other emergencies via telephone, text messages, email and social media.

The system will be tested on Monday starting at 10 a.m. by issuing calls to landline telephone numbers. The test is expected to last several hours.

The automated calls will encourage residents to register additional contact information into the new system, such as email addresses and mobile phone numbers.

Businesses and residents are encouraged to register by visiting www.yorkcountygov.com and clicking Emergency Notification Registration. Those without internet access can call (803) 329-0911 during regular business hours.
