A water leak on U.S. 74 near Bivens Road in Monroe caused traffic delays on Saturday.

At one point after a water main burst around 6:45 a.m. the eastbound lanes were closed and traffic was detoured. Later, traffic for the eastbound side was detoured into one lane of the westbound side and marked with traffic cones.

The City of Monroe’s Water Resources department was working on repairs that were expected to go well into Saturday night, police said.

Meanwhile, authorities advised motorists to avoid the area if possible, or to use caution and expect delays.
