Oakridge Middle School names Staff Member of the Year

Huston named OMS Staff of Year

Christine Huston has been named as the Oakridge Middle School Staff Member of the Year.

Huston is a member of Crowders Creek PTA and PTSO at OMS. She has served on student improvement councils at both schools. She was a pre-school teacher at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill for six years before becoming a teacher assistant at OMS.

She has been a resident of Lake Wylie for 10 years. She is married to Todd Huston, whose job at Belk Corporate moved them here from Avon, Ind. They have two daughters, Grace, 14, and Bella, 11.

The award is sponsored by Family Trust Credit Union.

Preschool to hold summer camp

Allison Creek Preschool, 5780 Allison Creek Road, will host its annual summer camp for children ages 18 months through completed third grade from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. July 14-18.

Blood center offers scholarship program

High school and college students who host a successful blood drive with Community Blood Center of the Carolinas between June and September have the chance to earn scholarship money.

The students with the top five producing blood drives will each receive a $1,000 scholarship from CBCC.

To be eligible for the scholarship, participating students must hold their blood drive between June 1 and Sept. 30, choose a location, recruit donors and collect a minimum of 25 units of blood. Each student will be paired with a CBCC representative who will provide assistance with planning the blood drive. The CBCC scholarship donation must be directly transferred to the college, university or other learning establishment of each winner’s choice.
