Today’s traffic: 2 serious wrecks in SW Charlotte

slyttle@charlotteobserver.comJune 17, 2014

Motorists who normally use 36th Street between Davidson and North Tryon streets will have to find an alternate route for the next two years.

That section of the road was closed Monday. The closure is needed so crews can work on the extension of the light rail line.

During the closure, motorists can use the detour route of Davidson Street, Jordan Place, Matheson Avenue and North Tryon Street.

Otherwise, traffic volume is decreasing across the Charlotte region at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police are still working to clear a few wrecks and disabled vehicles, however.

Here is the 9:45 a.m. update:

North

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

University City Boulevard at North Tryon Street ... Disabled vehicle; minor delays.

Southeast

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

Providence Road inbound ... Collision at High Ridge Road; moderate delays.

South

South Tryon Street, south of Steele Creek Road ... Earlier collision with injuries being cleared; minor delays.

Steele Creek Road, south of Westinghouse Boulevard ... Collision with injuries; minor delays.

West

Billy Graham Parkway ... Disabled vehicle just west of South Tryon Street; minor delays.
