CALDWELL COUNTY DETENTION CENTER

The Better Business Bureau says it has received dozens of complaints about a Mooresville man who was arrested late last week in Caldwell County and accused of running fraudulent home improvement companies.

Richard Farrant, 52, was taken into custody last Friday and charged by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office with obtaining property by false pretense.

Investigators in Caldwell County allege Farrant bilked residents out of money in a number of counties across central and western North Carolina. They said he operated companies, known as My Home LLC and Energy Services LCC, and failed to deliver services – such as windows and home insulation – after receiving partial payments from homeowners.

The Better Business Bureau of the Southern Piedmont said it has four different business names listed with Farrant. Three of those have an “F” rating from the BBB, and the fourth is listed as being out of business.

The BBB said it has received 44 complaints against Farrant from consumers in the past 36 months, which is the bureau’s standing reporting period.

Farrant was jailed under $15,000 bond.

Authorities ask that anyone who might have been victimized by Farrant, My Home LLC or Home Energy Services LLC contact the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at 828-758-2324, or the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3180.
