Lady Blue Eagles’ basketball camp begins July 14

The first Clover High School all-girls basketball camp will be 5-7:30 p.m. July 14-17.

The camp director is Shakkia Walker, assistant girls’ basketball coach at CHS. The Lady Blue Eagle coaching staff, players and former players will provide instruction.

Early registration is recommended, with final registration to be at 4:30 p.m. July 14. Multi-child discount is $10 per child.

Camp day activities will focus on the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, footwork, shooting, defense and ball-handling.

Local golfers take on senior tourneys

Lake Wylie area golfers took on Carolina Golf Associations Senior Four-Ball tournaments.

At Musgrove Mill Golf Course in Clinton on June 25 Lake Wylie residents Tom Bookmiller and Harold Fisher finished 43-40 - 83, and Mike Shively and Lowell Lueking ended the day with 44-41 - 85 in the Tournament Flight B (6,423 yards).

In the Super Senior 70 and older (5,221 yards) division, Carlos Salas of Clover and Herb Towell of Lake Wylie golfed 45-35 - 80.

At the June 26 tournament at the Country Club of Spartanburg Fisher and Tom Bookmiller finished 38-38 - 76, while Shively and Lueking golfed 42-42 - 84 in Flight B (6,205 yards).

In the Super Senior 65 and older Flight B (5,734 yards), Dave Duncan and Jim Sears, both of Lake Wylie, finished 38-38 - 76.

In the Super Senior 70 and older (5,113 yards), Herb Towell of Lake Wylie and Carlos Salas of Clover ended the day with 36-38 - 74.

Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into divisions based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 65+ Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 70+ Division.

Softball

Rockets head to world series

The Tega Cay Rockets 16U fastpitch softball team – made up of 13 girls from Tega Cay, Fort Mill, Charlotte, Chester and York – took first place in the USSSA South Carolina State Championships held June 21-22,.

They now will compete in the USSSA National World Series in Orlando, Fla.

The team is holding a fundraiser through Gofundme.org.
