July 4, 2014

A woman has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for running over and killing a runner while under the influence of drugs.

The Statesville Record and Landmark reported that Sylvia Sprinkle was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced last week. Prosecutors say Sprinkle was high on several drugs including cocaine when she drove into a group of runners on N.C. 90 in Alexander County on Christmas Eve 2010. Authorities say 44-year-old Robin Bowen was killed and a second runner injured. The trial was moved to Iredell County from Alexander County.
