LWAA 101 Academy will be held July 21-23

The 2014 Lake Wylie Athletic Association Basketball 101 Academy is scheduled for July 21-23 at Clover High School.

The camp, for rising fourth- through eighth-grade students, is from 5-8 p.m. daily.

Campers will be instructed on ball-handling, passing, defensive stance and positioning, shooting, playing without the ball and the importance of teamwork. Campers will be organized into teams; each team will play two games per night.

Bailey Jackson, head boys’ basketball coach at CHS, and Blue Eagles players and coaches will provide instruction and lead drills.

“It is a camp with much emphasis on the fundamentals of the game,” said Jackson. “We encourage participation.”

Belmont Rec

Youth, adult leagues forming in Belmont

Belmont Parks & Recreation Department is holding registration for youth fall baseball for ages 6-14, youth girls’ volleyball for ages 9-15, and youth soccer for ages 3-15, through July 26.

Registration for adult soccer runs through Aug. 22. Cost is $300 per team within the limits of Belmont, $350 per team out of city limits; or $40 for residents, $45 for nonresidents.

Fall 2014 youth athletics registration

Registration for Clover Recreation youth baseball, softball and soccer runs through July 31 for all divisions.

Registration is for boys ages 3-15 and girls ages 3-15. The registration fee is $50 per child; $40 for children age 6 or younger.
