Field of gleaning

Sixty-three volunteers working with the Society of St. Andrew gleaned 4,000 pounds of corn from Barbee Farms near Concord on Tuesday. The society is a food rescue and distribution ministry that uses volunteers to scour harvested fields for leftovers. The local chapter has gleaned 280,000 pounds of produce this year in the 17-county Charlotte area. It distributed more than 35,000 pounds in July alone. Barbee Farms is one of its biggest providers. The society is seeking volunteer gleaners and drivers willing to haul produce. Details:
