• Largemouth Bass: Fair to good. Early in the morning anglers are targeting schooling bass feeding on shad first thing with topwater lures, and on cloudy days this bite can continue all day. At night bass can be found down to about 15 feet of water or more fishing dark worms around brush.
We all know Southerners are known for frying everything, and one of those delights is fried green tomatoes. I would never have dared dream of eating green tomatoes, (heck, I don't even like red ones), but as the saying goes, "when in Rome ..."
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- In a remarkable display of bipartisan support for recreational boating, both the House and Senate last week passed S. 2766, "The Clean Boating Act of 2008," which will permanently restore a long-standing exemption for recreational boats from permitting requirements under the Clean Water Act. The legislation now goes to the White House for the President's signature.
My mom was a dressmaker. Co-owner of The Thimble Shop, she had a fine hand when it came to sewing, tailoring and monogramming. And even though she taught me, I didn't have the patience, or the hand, to work the creative sewing craft as she did. So it was with great interest that I went to the Mint Museum in Charlotte to take in the Haute Couture and Luxury Fashions exhibit.

• Largemouth Bass: Fair to good. First thing in the morning fish topwater Pop-Rs over main channel points in about 8 feet of water - bass are schooling. Night fishing is becoming the preferred time to catch fish - deep crankbaits, dark worms, and jigging spoons are all productive.
LAKE WYLIE -- The second annual Lake Wylie Scavenger Hunt & BBQ Fundraiser, hosted by the Charlotte Power Squadron, will be held Aug. 8-9. There will be lots of great prizes, including $300 for first place and $150 for second.
The Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation continues it five-session class on how residents can help enforce erosion and sedimentation control rules. The class continues July 23 and 29. Class times are 7-9 p.m. at the Sherills Ford Volunteer Firehouse, 8073 Sherills Ford Road, Sherills Ford, N.C. One class will follow at a construction site.

Here it is July Fourth week and the peak of summer at Lake Wylie is here. There will be children having a great time at Camp Thunderbird and making memories that will last a lifetime. The lake will be abuzz with activity from early morning to late night.
