Our View

  • What do you think?

The Lake Wylie Pilot editorial board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Cafe 49.

  • It’s a bumpy ride into York County

Last month, road crews carried out repairs to some large patches of the pavement on Pole Branch Road. We commend the County for opting for this methodology, rather than the unending process of filling potholes time and time again over the course of the winter. Their work has alleviated some of the pitfalls, (or, rather, potholes) of driving this route.

  • Gateway gets splash of color

Last week, the Lake Wylie Pilot focused on an issue arising from taking down 17 mature cherry trees along S.C. 49 at the former Waterside Marketplace, currently being revived by York Development Group and its new tenants, to make way for the new Wylie Gateway on the Lake center and the QuickTrip service station and convenience store along the road frontage of the property.

  • Walk this way with more retail

The 2010 Census figures, released in spring 2011, show a bigger Lake Wylie in many ways. We doubled in residents and area we include as the designation for our unincorporated York County area of “Lake Wylie.”

  • Our winters aren’t so bleak

Winter is upon us. But for those of us in the Lake Wylie area, the winters aren’t so bad, and there are some things to brighten our days.

  • Your spirit lives on in Lake Wylie

Lake Wylie recently lost one of its most passionate community members.

  • Our sympathy for your losses

Last week, we learned River Hills Community Church is losing its senior pastor Bruce Jones. This comes on the heels of the departure of two of its other pastors, Kenny Ashley and Matt McGarity, who left within a three-month span to plant their own churches.

  • Good things come in threes

Lake Wylie will be hopping this weekend with three big events – Riversweep, The River Hills Lions Club’s annual Benefit Dinner and Auction, and the Justin Mychals Child Cancer Benefit.

  • It’s time to conserve water

Although there are no mandatory water restrictions right now, doesn’t it make sense for homeowners and businesses to start practicing water conservation methods? We are now in Stage 1 drought, and we’ve been here before.

  • More planning needed for pet law

Members of the Humane Society of York County and others who are passionate about the cause of animals asked the York County Council to consider laws that will prohibit owners from tethering their dogs in their yards and require pet owners to obtain licenses for their dogs and cats.
