Dining Out

  • Community Cafe expanding to Fort Mill

The cafe provides free soup, sandwiches and more from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays in the family life center of River Hills Community Church at 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road. The cafe, which started serving lunches in January 2010, set its sights on expanding early on, said chef Don Murfin. The new Fort Mill location at Bethlehem Baptist church will serve dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

  • Hibachi Express delivers fine Japanese cuisine in Rock Hill

While looking for a quick lunch, we found Hibachi Express on Herlong Avenue in Rock Hill.

  • Dining out: Panda Hut tastes, feels good

With limited time for lunch and a grumbling belly, I wanted a quick meal, but not something too heavy or greasy. I headed out to Panda Hut in Lake Wylie, near Bi-Lo, in Lake Wylie.

  • Dining out: Hop over to Jack Rabbit's for wings, to watch big game

Jack Rabbit's Bar & Grill in Gastonia, N.C., has plenty of parking and plenty of seating. There's a large wrap-around bar in the center and to the left are tables and booths, with the outer wall booths each having a personal flat-screen television. In fact, there are so many TVs, there's not a seat in this house where you'll miss any game action.

  • Dining out: Warren's Grill serves 'best club'

I was looking for a quick lunch, but I also wanted to sit down, so I stopped in at Warren's Grill in Lake Wylie. I must admit, I have been leery of the grill idea at a gas station and convenience store, because I thought it must be a "greasy spoon." However, what I found was something completely, and surprisingly, different.

  • Dining out: Steve and Kelly's a merry experience

n the spirit of the season, we headed to Steve and Kelly's Grille House, nestled off Gold Hill Road near the entrance of Tega Cay with plenty of parking and lighting. I'd been wanting to come here for some time.

  • Dining out: Taste adventure in cheeseburger pizza

I like pizza best when it's simply pizza -- dough, sauce, cheese, meats and sometimes veggies. I don't typically like those crazy concoctions of Hawaiian with pineapples, quesadilla, chicken Alfredo, and so on. However, since being introduced to Market Street's cheeseburger pizza, I'm hooked and not turning back.

  • Dining out: Passion8 Bistro shares culinary passions

Not far from the Carowinds Boulevard exit off Interstate 77 is Passion8 Bistro, nestled on a curve near a patch of woods on S.C. 51 in Fort Mill. It stands alone as a mustard-yellow exterior stucco building that offers a warm welcome with plenty of parking and a walk through the cozy back patio set up with tables surrounded by private fencing that leads to entrance.

  • Dining out: Peach Stand in Fort Mill keeps it local

I woke up on a recent Saturday morning craving comfort food. I'd had a long week and needed an escape from the hustle and bustle of reality. I knew just the place to go for brunch -- The Peach Stand, a Fort Mill fixture since the 1930s.

  • Dining out: Holy Grounds' pastries like 'heaven'

A few blocks south of the Main Street intersection of Clover is a quaint coffee house and cafe where I've been privy to taste some of the best pastries around, like muffins wrapped phyllo dough, that edible and delectable baklava-like flaky piece of heaven.
