In the fight for the throne of Lake Wylie bass fishing, round one goes to the pro.
Bassmaster Elite Series angler and local pro Jason Quinn topped the scales Saturday in the first King of the Lake event with 17.46 pounds, including the big fish of the day at 4.24 pounds. Trailing were Hunter Hicks in second with 15.65 pounds and Mike Brehm in third with 14.97 pounds. In all, 23 anglers competed with 18 weighing in at least one fish.I knew it was going to be a tough day and the bite was going to be in the afternoon, Quinn said.Local marine businesses are banking on a big weekend once the calendar flips to February. They’re hoping area boat enthusiasts will see it as the same opportunity.
The 40th Mid-Atlantic Boat Show anchors into Charlotte Convention Center Feb. 9-12. The annual event brings many of the biggest regional names in the boating industry to one place, offering deals for boat enthusiasts. For water-based businesses, it’s also the launch of their season.“We use this boat show to kick off our season each year and give customers and potential customers an opportunity to view new products and answer any questions they may have about their water-dependent structures,” said Perry Johnston, owner of Dock Masters.I have to admit. It’s been years since I knowingly ate anything that came out of the river, or Lake Wylie as many refer to it. Still, I wouldn’t have given a second thought to doing so until recently.
