Lake Wylie teen attends Duke TIP

STEELE CREEK -- Several students from the Steele Creek and Lake Wylie area participated in the May 10 weekend National Chess Championship for elementary students in Pittsburgh, including a kindergarten to fifth-grade team from Winget Park Elementary.

Clover woman heads to law school

CLOVER -- The Clover School District Administration will hold a drop-in from 2 to 4 p.m. June 1 to honor Barbara Parrish, who is retiring on June 30.

The following Griggs Road Elementary students received the Eagle Award for the third nine weeks. The Eagle Award is for students who made A, B, C, E or S on reports cards, had no more than two tardies and/or early dismissals, missed no more than three homework assignments and did not receive lunch detention during the nine-week period. The students were rewarded with a special activity.

Two make list

• A new preschool in Clover at First United Methodist Church Preschool, 124 Bethel St., is accepting enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year. Registration is open to children turning 3 before Sept. 1, and children aged 4. Resumes for teaching also are being accepted. Kathy Hall, preschool director, said registration also is under way for two summer camps -- July 7-11 with a summer fun theme; and Aug. 4-8 with a team-spirit theme. Camps run from 9 a.m. to noon. • Crowders Creek annual Spring Carnival is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19. This is the main fundraiser for the PTA and provides teachers with grants, money for conferences and needed school equipment.
