The first step in the walk is to help the Lions by responding to a fundraising letter or sending a donation payable to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Checks may be mailed to the River Hills Lions Club Inc., P.O. Box 5016, Lake Wylie, SC 29710.

The River Hills Women’s Club monthly meeting will be held March 17 at River Hills Country Club. This month's program will be "The Spring Fashion Show," presented by River Hills resident Tracy Stith, owner of Alta, a ladies fashion shop, in Rock Hill. Social time begins at noon followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. The luncheon costs $15. Membership is open to residents of River Hills Plantation and River hills Country Club members. The Sometimes Singers, a River Hills ladies singing group directed by Kevin Gray, performed classic love songs Feb. 17 for the River Hills Women’s Club monthly meeting.

The Col. William Bratton Chapter of the South Carolina Society of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution - which covers York, Lancaster and Chester counties - will meet at 6 p.m. March 11 at Ryan's Family Steakhouse, 2367 Dave Lyle Blvd, Rock Hill. The River Hills Lions Club's annual May 7 Golf Tournament and Business Expo at River Hills Country Club will be sponsored by Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville. The hospital was incorrectly named in the Lake Wylie Pilot. We apologize for the error.

Elected in 2004 to represent the 87th District in Lexington County, Haley was named “Friend of the Taxpayer” in 2009 by the S.C. Association of Taxpayers and a “Taxpayer Hero” in 2005 by Gov. Mark Sanford for her efforts to cut taxes and slow the growth of government spending.

The River Hills Lions Club will host its annual Golf Tournament and Business Expo on May 7 at River Hills Country Club. Several new attractions and new sponsorship opportunities are included this year, along with the business expo. Plus, you don't even have to play to win.

The Belmont Historical Society general membership meeting, 7 p.m. Feb. 11, First Baptist Church, Central Avenue, Belmont.The speaker will be Ted Alexander, regional director for Preservation North Carolina.
