We all know where it is and come hungry for dinner. On a corner just north of the downtown on U.S. 321 is El Mexicano, with plenty of parking and lots of seating.
Who'd have thought a shiny gold-painted brick wall and fireplace could be classy, not tacky? At Maestro's Bar & Grill, the decor in this restored 110-year-old home (just off Main Street in Pineville, N.C.) is beautiful and well-thought to the detail, from the small gold violins that hold the curtains back to the sheet music wallpaper in the marble and tile-adorned restrooms.
I'd heard about some weenie who stole the hot dog sign in front of Ebenezer Grill in Rock Hill. In fact, the story grabbed the national spotlight. Still, I'd never been to this "culture icon," as a friend put it, for those good ol' American hot dogs. Sometimes, just as I get a craving for burgers, I crave sinking my teeth into a good hot dog.

Liu Liu's at Baxter Village in Fort Mill, located just off Interstate 77, used to be one of my restaurants of choice when it was called Uncle Liu Liu's in Lake Wylie at the now ghost town of a plaza, behind the McDonald's on S.C. 49. It was my favorite Asian restaurant anywhere, in fact, because the food was always fantastic -- light, fresh and flavorful.
Well, now I've gone and done it. After living in the Carolinas for more than 11 years, I've got a new craving besides sweet tea and barbecue. It's grits. Yep, Coast Grille in Rock Hill has this Yankee hook, line and sinker. I've sampled them from friend's plates from time to time in the past, never enjoying the taste, or was it the texture? I'm not a fan of warm cereals to begin with. Maybe it's because of mom, but I do keep trying foods that I don't like. Once in a while, I find I like something I never did before -- and now, I'm in love.
Along S.C. 49, just after the Buster Boyd Bridge, is a road-frontage Italian restaurant where six outdoor umbrella tables seat five each, a great way to enjoy springtime in Lake Wylie.
