As the Charlotte Knights baseball team sits poised to move on to the big city, we are sad to think York County will be losing the organization. This is a loss, given the wonderful generosity the Knights and EA Sports Fields provided just last week by donating time and services to improve local athletic fields for Lake Wylie Athletic Association.

Last month, road crews carried out repairs to some large patches of the pavement on Pole Branch Road. We commend the County for opting for this methodology, rather than the unending process of filling potholes time and time again over the course of the winter. Their work has alleviated some of the pitfalls, (or, rather, potholes) of driving this route.
Last week, the Lake Wylie Pilot focused on an issue arising from taking down 17 mature cherry trees along S.C. 49 at the former Waterside Marketplace, currently being revived by York Development Group and its new tenants, to make way for the new Wylie Gateway on the Lake center and the QuickTrip service station and convenience store along the road frontage of the property.
The 2010 Census figures, released in spring 2011, show a bigger Lake Wylie in many ways. We doubled in residents and area we include as the designation for our unincorporated York County area of “Lake Wylie.”
Winter is upon us. But for those of us in the Lake Wylie area, the winters arent so bad, and there are some things to brighten our days.
