Dear District 2 citizens and the people of York County,

EVERY ONE VOTE

Hey Lake Wylie residents, do you care about the future of our area? Do you want to see more green space? More uniform building schemes? More fire, police and other safety service protections? More attention paid to the quality and quantity of water in our lake?

The legislative year is coming to an end and will likely leave a handful of committee conferees with the key decisions on immigration reform and the disposition of and purpose for a cigarette tax. It is my hope that this small group of conferees will accurately reflect your opinions on these topics. It is a moment when it is best to keep in mind what Benjamin Franklin once said, "Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment." Optimism dictates that we hope for the best on these matters.

The Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group last week advised its members to continue strictly limiting outdoor water uses to no more than one day a week.

If troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are going to fight and die for their country, they ought to have access to a fast and easy way to help choose who will lead the country.

There must be many drought weary residents across the township who were relieved when officials from Lancaster and York counties, the Town of Fort Mill and City of Tega Cay relaxed restrictions on home water use. Residents can water their lawns once a week, but other restrictions, such as washing cars and driveways, remain.

A bill that would prohibit those driving with a learners' permit or age-restricted license from talking or texting on a cell phone narrowly passed a S.C. House committee last week. It's an excellent idea, but one that needs to be expanded. Why restrict only permit holders?

Earning the title of most endangered river in the nation may be the best thing that has happened for the Catawba River in some time. But if leaders in both North and South Carolina fail to heed the warning, it may prove to be the river's obituary.
