To the citizens of the Lake Wylie / Bethel area,

GOVERNMEN TMATH

No matter where the presidential candidates are on the campaign trail, the issue of skyrocketing gas prices is always a top concern.

Dogs enhance our lives in countless ways. They are our friends, protectors, playmates, confidants and supporters. For many dogs, their most joyous moments are when we simply come home. No matter how bad our day was at work or school, a furiously wagging tail is always a pick-me-up.

Volunteer Kelly Gainey of Rock Hill returned June 30 to Jubilee Children's Center in Nairobi and will be there for one month. Last year, she helped build bunk beds and desks, and played with the children. This is the fifth and final week Lake Wylie Pilot will have published e-mails about her experience:

Casey Nicholls, Office manager and partner with Matt McGinn of The Master's Construction Co., said being part of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," the Emmy-award winning hit reality show on ABC last week in Charlotte, was "Amazing."

I am writing to express my concern over the recent realization that one of our school board members, Bob Magee, is not a full-time resident of our area. I chose to e-mail Mr. Magee and give him an opportunity to address the concerns that I have. I have included the full text of the e-mail I sent him as well as the inadequate response that I received from him. Here is my email:

Dear District 2 citizens and the people of York County,

EVERY ONE VOTE

Hey Lake Wylie residents, do you care about the future of our area? Do you want to see more green space? More uniform building schemes? More fire, police and other safety service protections? More attention paid to the quality and quantity of water in our lake?

The legislative year is coming to an end and will likely leave a handful of committee conferees with the key decisions on immigration reform and the disposition of and purpose for a cigarette tax. It is my hope that this small group of conferees will accurately reflect your opinions on these topics. It is a moment when it is best to keep in mind what Benjamin Franklin once said, "Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment." Optimism dictates that we hope for the best on these matters.

The Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group last week advised its members to continue strictly limiting outdoor water uses to no more than one day a week.

If troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are going to fight and die for their country, they ought to have access to a fast and easy way to help choose who will lead the country.
