    Bob Jenkins, the hall of fame track coach who spent more than four decades coaching high school athletes in Rock Hill and across South Carolina and the country, died Monday morning at age 79, his daughter said.

  • OMS clinches title with 17-0 season

    The Oakridge Middle School softball team clinched Eastern Division Championships after dominating Gold Hill on April 22, 22-0. Kayla Ogle threw a no-hitter while striking out 11 Gold Hill batters, reaching 100 strikeouts. Leading the way on offense for the Lady Eagles were: Taylor Morneault - 2 for 2, tripled, 2 runs, 3 RBIs; Madi MacNeil - 2 for 3, 2 runs, 3 RBIs; Melia Venezia - 2 or 3, 2 doubles, 4 runs, 2 RBIs; Anna Transou - Doubled, 2 RBI; and Jackie Van Slambrook - singled, 1 RBI.

  • Five Clover Eagles sign to play sports in college

    Five Clover Blue Eagles prolonged their competitive athletic careers Monday in a signing ceremony in the school’s upstairs library. Seniors Aaliyah Knox, Alexis Brice, Jordie Sowell, Aaron Harvell and Cameron Sellers all were honored by parents, teacher and coaches at a ceremony to recognize their accomplishments.

  • Local runners ‘hit close’ by Boston tragedy

    As far as Achilles injuries go, Julie Odoms may be suffering from one of the more fortunate ones. Odoms, 40, was bib number 18241 for the 117th Boston Marathon. The Lake Wylie wife and mom decided days before the April 16 race to stay home and nurse an injury she originally planned to run through. Instead, she heard the news of the Boston tragedy from a distance.
